My house is a pigsty, so I'm not one to look for to advice. But when I do get on a roll of keeping it clean it's usually because I'm religiously following Fly Lady.

LOL ... FLYLady is too fast for me! Very sad, but true. I've attempted FLYLady quite a few times over the years, though her lessons are definitely what keep me going. I now have a checklist on the background of my computer (something you can do with Vista) and I've been following it for 2 weeks now. So far I'm finding that if I keep the house clutter free on a daily basis then it's not too hard to keep clean.

As for the walls & such, well, I'm stuffed to the max & think I need to start to empty cupboards & stuff first. On my checklist I've got 10-15 minutes garage & I cannot believe the difference a few minutes every day really works!

Once I feel confident I have my daily routine down as a habit I'm going to attempt FLYLady again.

So my walls, they probably get a cleaning about 1-2 a year. Door frames, rails, etc, basically when I actually notice they're bad. Vacuum, main area's 2 times a week, other area's 1 week. I love having those cleaning wipes under the sink in the bathroom. I quickly straighten & wipe & have the bathrooms looking good with only 1 good cleaning in the week.

I work from home & feel completely overwhelmed by life. I had 3 years of tragedies, something happening every 2-3 months, each event worse than the other. It then probably took 2 years to try to recover, meanwhile I had babies. So I've got a lot to try to catch up.

As fly lady says, something like... the mess didn't happen over night, I cannot expect to clean over night.

I'm going to focus on getting all the woodwork and doors done, but at least I have some motivation since my parents are coming for a visit around Easter.
