We have a convention in Las Vegas from January 4th to the 7th, and sense my DD is out of school we thought it would be a great time to squeeze in a Minivacation!! My DH and I are very excited about it. I was wondering if any of you have been there with your kids and have any suggestions on where to go. We are going to stay at teh Excaliber as it is supposed to be the best hotel for kids, and that way we can do the dinner and jousting show (Fayth loves that). We are also going to see all the animals such as the Tigers and Dolphins. Plus...My MIL is going to, though not staying with us, and she is going to take Fayth for the nights so we can have some adult time - any ideas what to do with that time is appreciated to. Thanks so much. Happy New Year!!

No ideas - never been there, but it sounds like you are going to have a great time!

Kid time AND grown-up time ON VACATION!

I'm so jealous...

Susan :)

My kids absolutely LOVE Vegas. We stopped through last year on our way to Utah. The kids loved the Rainforest Cafe in MGM which is very close to the Excaliber. The volcano dessert actually comes with a sparkler and quite yummy. MGM also has a lion exhibit. The M&M store is a lot of fun and also not far from where you'll be. Go all the way to the top, they have a 3-d movie and lots of cute stuff. We love Star Trek so went to the Star Trek Experience at the Hilton (it's not super close but the tram can take you right there.) The kids loved eating at Quarks along with Klingons and other aliens. DH and I have been there alone too and the motion rides and exhibits are pretty cool. DD is an Egyptian fanatic so a trip through the recreation of Tut's tomb at the Luxor is fun (though, we've been through the real Tut exhibit which is cooler of course.) They have a nice FAO Shwarz toy store at the Paris hotel... or was it the venetian... I don't really remember but I bet you could find it online. The pools are a lot of fun. I've heard Mandelay Bay has the best but we went to the "river" pool at MGM and had fun. There really is plenty to do with kids for a few days.

For us, the kid stuff is fun. We've gone on our own a couple times though. We like walking through the New York Hotel. Cesar's Palace and the Bellagio are really neat. We usually drop about 5 bucks in the slots for fun but we don't gamble more than that (I can't stand the idea of wasting so much money lol.) There are a lot of shows. I know "Mama Mia" is playing but I haven't seen it. You'll pay more for them there than on tour but it's a fun outing.

Anyway, lots to do. It made a huge impression on DS who talks about it constantly even now (and we spent a full week in Disney World earlier this month!)

So we are back, made it through the vacation and have to return to our normal lives ~sniff sniff~ It was great!!! Though very tiring and I am glad that I can again sleep in my own bed. The weather kind of put a damper on things because it was like 60 degrees with 30mph wind gust, hence no swimming. But we did go to the M&M store (very cute, but VERY $$$$, $9 a lb!?!) and we saw the baby lions. Fayth's favorite part of the whole trip was the free tram that goes between the hotels, go figure... We also did a little bit of walking on the strip and went to the Luxor for King Tut's tomb and a 3D Imax about the ocean (very cool, see it if you can). We had a good time - though in all honesty I don't think we will go back to Vegas until she is a little older. Fayth is not big on roller coasters or anything that might be scary so alot of the rides and things were out of the question for us, if your kids like it then there are roller coasters everywhere. Next convention time I think she will stay with my family, but it was nice to just get away!!!

I'm so happy for you!!!! You know, when I was little we went to Germany every summer for three months. I remember going ot school and the teacher asking what the favorite part of the vacation was...LOL!!!! I remember drawing a picture of an apartment building and ringing the door bell. The sound was different and we lived in a house so apartments was new to me, too. It really is funny what kids find interesting and for what reasons, isn't it? Welcome home and it's good to see you enjoyed yourselves!
