tantrums?

My daughter will be 8 in a few weeks. We have been dealing with tantrums from her since she was 11 months. I don't understand what sets her off. Most days it is anything and everything. Something as simple as "can we go swimming?" and my reply is "not right now, it's not quite hot enough out so we need to wait for it to get hotter" and she goes off "I WANT TO GO SWIMMING NOW! IT'S NOT FAIR! I HATE LIVING HERE!" Then she'll go into her room, slam the door, throw things, scream etc..... It's to the point where I can't stand being around her anymore. I am trying to get her into my son's dr (he has ADHD) just to see what they say. My son doesn't act like this at all so I can't imagine what it could be. I've done time outs, redirecting, taking away priveledges, etc...nothing gets it in her head. We have left stores when she acts like this, nothing works. It makes her mad but then she does it again the next time. thanks.

I have the same problem with my 5 year old boy. Right now he is in flag football which he wanted to play and now that practice started he hates it. It is very hard to continue to go and watch him cry. I don't want him to be a quitter but if he hates it why do this to the family. We take things away and he does not care today he is missing a birthday party because of his behavior he says well I did not want to go anyway. I don't know what to do.

Tantrums are so hard to deal with, I think getting her in to the doctor is a good start.

Well this morning she copped attitude about cleaning up the downstairs, so I marched up to her room and cleaned it out. All she has in there now is her bed, her dresser, and a little table and chairs. She was NOT happy LOL I told her she needed to earn her stuff back with good behavior, and pretty much the whole day was good :-O We'll see.
