Too much pressure too fast?

After reading about the homework I feel lucky with my daughter's amount but I still feel these kids are pushed so hard. When I went to school we learned the rules and then were allowed to play the game (metaphor) and now it seems they like they get the rules as they go through a process of trial and error. I find that it just seems confusing. I am no dummy and I think the way they teach these kids is insane. Maybe it is just my district but I see the 3rd graders doing the same thing as the 1st graders, albeit with more skill. But why just throw things at them they can't master yet only to have them review over and over. I prefer giving them achievable goals they can master and then move to the next thing. Seems it would be better for them emotionally as well. Any thoughts? Am I alone in my groan? I don't think this type of learning is good for my daughter in particular. Not sure how to fix it but there it is.

Yes, I agree!! I actually came to this board to see if anyone else is having the same problem. My daughter has some anxiety regarding school because of it and sometimes I think about homeschooling her.
