Please help. I have a seven year old boy. He was born 16 weeks early. He is healthy and seems happy. My overwhelming conern is that he "has a fit", hits himself, walls, etc if something isn't exactly perfect. For example, if he has a wrinkle in his sock that is bothering him, or his pants itch, that can cause a big blow-up. We are really frustrated with this. Sometimes we feel like we don't want to go out in public because we never know how he will behave. Shouldn't this kind of behavior be over by know. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Have you had him checked out for sensory disorders? Some children literally cannot have certain textures or things like tags, pajamas with feet, socks with seams, etc. because it is painful or disturbing. That would be my first thought, to get him checked out, rule it out and move on to other physical disorders, and then check for behavioral/emotional problems and finally, maybe it is a discipline problem and he needs to be taught a different way to handle those situations.

I hope this helps. Please let us know what you find out.

I was going to suggest the same thing. I'd talk to the teacher and see if it happens at school, too. Then I'd talk to the doctor and get him tested. Sensory issues respond to therapy and there is no reason to overly concerned.
