It is D's first time playing kid pitch.  Can I say that is is painfully boring to watch? strike, strike, ball, ball, walk, hit the kid and then walk after tears, etc.  This is going to be rough to watch.

our league didn't do a fall ball this year. think too many wrinkles from the merger last year which was fine with me. But we had kid pitch for the last 2 years (this year they did change it in clinc so kids no longer pitched so maybe interesting to see those kids when they move up to minors adjust to kid pitch) This year we have very different strike zones even in a game per pitcher. Guess the league told the umps the better the pitcher the smaller the strike zone. So Liam had a GREAT first game but each time he got that ump again he shrunk his strike zone which crippled his confidence. Also it ticked parents off because when 1 pitcher through high its a strike but another its a ball so Liam got called out on balls over his head yet couldnt get a strike out to save his life some games.

Anyway I'm not sure if it was better or worse with the kid pitch. Tball was lengthy but they let all the kids up. In clinc it was 3 outs or until you battered around. Last year since there was an age change a lot of kids got bumped to the minors with only 1 year of clinic so getting an out was still a struggle but they had a slaughter rule no more then 5 runs an inning. THAT moved things along. Also in clinic sometimes they gave 5 strikes

SInce this is our first year with kid-pitch we are adjusting. They announced last Sunday that there were some rules being changes and that a paid umpire would be at the game.

They announced that for kidpitch the strike zone is to benefit the pitcher, but the batter. D was batting and had a strike called on a ball that bounced on the plate. My kid was ticked, but he didn't say a word at the time.

I missed yesterday - I had a scout function I was running. D said he had fun.

Oh DS had a strike call like that. Um how can he hit it if its on the ground by the time it reaches him!!! At this point we tell him yes its not fair but thats the ump and we have to go with the call. League has weekly meetings during the season and these are issues the work out there. Bad calls are going to happen no one is perfect and we have umps admit I didn't get a good look If one is making consitantly bad calls or favoring 1 team its going to be addressed at the meetings and I just tell DS. If coach feels calls were bad he will address with league for future but for now not much we can do. Its hard because even when its not me kid up when you see something clearly called wrong its hard NOT to yell and scream but they make you sign a code of conduct...
