Running in the rain

Today we had cross country team photos after school, then outside for practice.  Usually the photos are taken outside, but too much rain today.  They started running in a sprinkle, but by the time they were getting back, it was a downpour!  The kids were having a blast.  Some laid on the parking lot to make "rain angels" like snow angels and some started singing and dancing when they finished.  It was lots of fun to see them enjoying the rain so much!

We had an optional invitational yesterday and about 15 kids from our team went (about an hour drive from home).  The 3rd and 4th grade developmental race was just over a mile and a 3rd grade boy from our school came in 3rd place.  The 5th and 6th grade race was 1.75 miles and we had some good runners, but nobody placed.  None of our 7th or 8th graders were able to attend.

The first regular cross country meet of our season will be Wednesday at a nice park not too far away, but the course will be different than previous years.  They will run the 7th and 8th grade boys first (of which we don't have any on our team) then 3 minutes later the girls (we have 4 girls in 7th-8th grades).  Once they all finish, then they start the 2-6th grade boys and 3 minutes later the girls.  That way we are not there all night!

The goofing off in the rain sounds like fun. In peewee ball, the best practice my son ever had was the mud bowl. It poured all day, stopped for two hours before practice and then opened up on them again. They were like completely covered and had the best time.
