Do you have any rules at your house regarding sports and grades?

Our kids have always been in a million things, sports, scouts, plays, music and more and have always been honor students. I do tell them that I can loosen up their schedules if homework is not done!!

Both my guys are also Honor Roll students, so I've never had an issue.

My daughter started playing club soccer this year and it takes up alot of time. At least 3 practices a week in another city as well as tournaments and games on the weekends out of town as well. Along with this she still wanted to play volleyball and track at school and be part of the yearbook staff after school. We told her that as long as she maintained a B average she could participate in what she wanted but if her grades started slipping or we thought she was being stretched too thin something was going to give. Happy to say that 8th grade has been her best so far...grades are up and she has really learned how to study and prioritize. I think she is really ready for high school next year and all of the demands that takes out of your study time.

With my other daughter who also plays club soccer we did not put the maintain a B average as she is long as she studies each night and we know that she is doing her best we are fine with her grades. If she starts to really struggle she will be the 1st one to say she needs help. We do not have to travel quite as much with her team which helps also.

Not really. My kids have been playinf for so long that sports never affect their grades and they always have A's and/or B's. If their grades started falling sports would not be the reason why and no, I would not deny them their aport. It would be no video games, iTouch, computer or friends over.
