Do your kids play sports at school? Did you find programs for them to play through the community?

My kids started with Y and Park District programs. Once you get more into sports, you find other places. We did martial arts for a long time and tried a few different places in private places, Y and park district. The football league my ds plays in is partly sponsered by the park district, it does the adminstrative stuff, but it is a self sustaining orginization. My kids have also done sports through school, starting in 7th grade.

My DH always knew he wanted the boys to try hockey (and luckily, they like it because it is totally a Dad/Son sport for us), and so he found the local youth organization that plays out of the rink where he plays men's league, and put our oldest into their beginner hockey program (almost 9 years ago--that seems like FOREVER!).

Mine play for the Rec center or AYSO. Travel sports are not an option, too expensive for us. At least with Red programs they have scholarships if we can't manage the money one year. We don't rely on that we try not to use that program.

When I was growing up we started in town leagues. Starting at T-ball. Then as time went on travel teams came up. These teams are all now really diluted so I am not surprised you are having trouble finding the right teams. When it comes down to it...find teams that have your boys friends on it from school. As they grow up they will continue to play together and it makes for better high school althletics. :)
