Just doing my own little "poll" - should a parent let their 14 year old just "play" all day during the summer

My philosophy is that the household does not stop running just because you are on vacation.

My son (11) has more chores in the summer because he doesn't have the repsonsibility of school.

We have chores year round but a few more in the summer, because we usually do some yard/home improvement type stuff where all hands are needed.

My kids have chores year round. They usually get more to do in the summers, I don't make them do reading, they avid readers, so they do that themselves.

If they don't do chores, DH and I will be doing them all, so heck yeah, they have chores!

Honestly, my kids are often busier in the summer than during the school year.

I like your chore list - how do you get him to do them? Does he remember to do them on his own or do you have a system to remind him?
My kids are pretty good at doing chores but usually need to be prompted to do them.
