I took Liz to the GYN last week because for the past several months her periods are just awful...she gets nauseated to the point of vomiting, aches all over, has horrendous cramps, and is OVERLY emotional...She and I had discussed the possibility of BC pills to help alleviate some of the symptoms, and the NP agreed with us and gave Liz a script for Lybrel, which totally stops the period (wish they'd had that when I was still having them! LOL)...it just feels so strange to know that she's now on BC...Funny thing is she says to me 'And don't worry, I am SO not ready for sex!'

I agree it is so weird to watch them grow up.

I am sorry to hear that Liz has had issues with her period as well.

I had the same horrible periods when I was a girl. I so wish birth control has been an option for me. I am sure my mom would probably never have put me on the pill (she was very repressed!). Sounds like you and Liz have a wonderful relationship. I have a 3-year-old daughter, and I know I'll be feeling the same way as you do when she's 13!

My daughter had horrible periods, too, the first couple of years. She also went on the pill to straighten them out and it really helped. We just told her to think of it as hormonal medication. We didn't even call it "the pill," just "your medicine."

She hasn't been on it for a while, but plans to ask for it again at her next check-up because her periods are irregular and always surprise her.
