Your son is 10 this age is normal for being so emotional.

As for being friends with this boy. Let him. Tell him he can be friend with him. Let him be friends with this boy. Have them play at the park, pool ... just when it comes to going over to his house dont let him. Suggest they go play somewhere else or give your son something else to do at that time. Suggest he go play at another kids house. Divert his attention away from this little boy. And when approached by a sleep over say no and give some reason... You not telling your son to not be friends just "limiting the one on one" play times........ Its easier than the drama of being "mean"... Good Luck.
