10 year olds defiance at school

Our 10 year old displays outright defiance to the teachers at school when asked to do work or go to one of the activities he is signed up for.

He is adopted. He has been with us 2 and a half years. He is A.D.D.. He gets angry very quickly. He is home on 3 days suspension for fighting. His answer to why is always "I don't know". He just does not get the severity of his actions. He has had everything taken away and has to earn them back. So far I don't want to give him anything.

How do you get a child to care about what they do and it's affect on others?

Welcome! You're doing the right thing by taking away priveleges. The key is to find the one thing that really matters to him, and be consistent in enforcing that he doesn't get to do it when he doesn't do as expected, even if it's an activity you've paid for. I know that others on the board will have great suggestions for you regarding the ADD and adoption issues. I just wanted to welcome you to our board, and I'm glad you found us and jumped in with this question.
