Hi there
My 10 year old son still wets the bed (as did I, til I outgrew it somewhere in my tweens/early teens-can't quite remember). He has always been a bedwetter and I am aware of the stats that it is probably genetic. We are finally ready to try to nip this in the bud and not wait until he grows out of it, because he is hesitant to do sleepovers, and night camps, etc. He is so worried that one of his friends will see his "Goodnite" sometime when he is sleeping over, that he has started to decline people's invites.
Some time ago I brought this up on one of these boards and several people recommended an alarm type system, one in particular. However at that time I wanted to wait a bit longer, and didn't write it down! If you are still out there, can you tell me what it was called? Or if anyone else has tried a product with success for this "primary nocturnal enuresis" please let me know what worked. I really do not want to do any kind of pills.

My DD had a similar problem, she did outgrow it around 10 though. I can't speak for the alarms but when I talked to my Dr. about it she said there is a nasal spray kids can use. All it does is concentrate the urine so they don't build up so much overnight and hence can hold it longer. It doesn't help "solve" the problem because you can't keep doing that forever, but its great for something like a weekend camp or a sleepover. Because you can use it temporarily and then go back to more traditional methods. So if he is missing Scout camp because of this it might be something you could ask the Dr. about as a temporary stop gap measure to allow him not to be so embarrassed. Of course I would try it at home first to make sure it really works.
Good luck. I know how hard it is for kids when they can't help it, but they do outgrow it eventually.
Hi Wendy!
I totally understand what you're going through. I have an 11 year old daughter who also has a wetting problem.
Her pedi said that when she gets older and starts to go through puberty (still hasn't even started yet) the bedwetting should stop. I assume it would be the same for your son when he starts.
She also wears Goodnites and the new ones I bought for her look exactly like regular underwear, so she isn't embarrassed to wear them for sleepovers since no one even notices she has them on.
Hope everything works out for you!
Good Luck!
Yes I think that was it, the Malem. I thought it started with an M. Tomorrow I am going to our family dr with DS to get a referral, apparently one of our local hospitals has a enuresis childrens clinic, where they deal with such things, so we are going to get an appointment there. I am hoping they have something like that to loan out, if not, then I will probably buy one. I was going to let him grow out of it but so many people said that Malem did the trick and they were glad they didn't wait. I thought, why make him go through this for 2 more years (or whatever) if he doesn't have to.
I will have to check out those new Goodnites. The ones we have do NOT look like underwear, they look like Pull-Ups with an older design on them. He is also paranoid of the "crinkly" papery sound they make when he walks into bed, even though he always puts it on at the last minute.
