Hello everyone! I am a newbie here and need some advice. Recently my 10 yr.old daughter has been showing alot of jealousy whenever another child is around. Mostly in the area of myself and my interaction with the other child. I am doing nothing different then I have in the past. Is this a normal stage of character development? It has me stumped. I have great communication with her and we are very close. She is an only child. It is driving me nuts. I have been understanding and tried to communicate that it is ok to feel this way but that she needs to let me know how I can help her feel more secure but this is not seeming to help out with it. With her playmates she treats them meanly but still insists on playing with them. I don't want to subject them to these actions. I have explained this to one that she is particulary doing this more to, but she insists on still playing too. What do I do?

First, welcome to our board. This is an interesting question, that I haven't seen before for this age group. Perhaps someone else will have BTDT. Meanwhile, how is she actually acting out her jealousy? Perhaps you can say before a play date, that if she doesn't behave appropriately, no more playdates for 2 weeks. Or, if she behaves appropriately, reward her in some way. I'm sure you give her enough attention, but what are you doing with her friends when she gets jealous? I'm just curious so that maybe we can help more. To be honest, when my kids have friends over, at this point I pretty much stay out of their way, just keep my ears open. I usually join them in the kitchen snack time, and just make general chit chat for 5 minutes.

I hope we can help you on this one! I'm glad you found us and posted.

Sorry, I have no experience either. I did want to welcome you to the board, hoping that one of the other wonderful ladies here will be able to help.

Best Always,
