2nd week of high school

Connor just finished his first week of HS and will be heading into week number 2 on Tuesday.

He did end up dropping Football. As much as he loved the game he found the schedule overwhelming with homework. He was in school from 7-2, football from 2:15-6:30 and then home. Shower, dinner, homework, guitar practice and he had no time to relax. Twice a week would have been very difficult. Weds he has guitar lessons at 7 so he'd get home at 8 pm. Shower, eat dinner, homework etc.. Thurs was game night. Get home between 8 and 9, shower, dinner, homework etc.. In the three days he was in school, he didn't sleep well, worrying about how he'd manage it all. Friday morning he went to the coach and turned in his pads. It was a difficult choice, as he really wanted to play, but he really was concerned about getting his homework done and living other parts of his life. With football it had to be all football and schoolwork and nothing else. There was no time for anything else. I think he's much happier now.

He's been playing his guitar a lot the past three days, hyperfocusing and making up for lost time. I'm looking forward to seeing what next week is like for him, without the worry of football on his shoulders.

Sounds like he made the best choice that works for him.

It's such a shame that sports nowadays are so all encompassing.

That's too bad, I know how excited he was to be on the team. But he made a smart decision. That sounds like a wicked schedule and kids do need some time just to think and reflect on life and not always be go go go. Hope week 2 goes equally well.

Sounds like the best decision for Connor!
