I would venture to say no gift. It sounds like just a celebration, especially since she's graduating too.

But I understand your feelings about not wanting to go empty-handed and I think the bear would work just fine for that.

Good luck with your decision.

I agree with you. No big gift. The little bear would be very cute and appropriate. As you said, its only 8th grade, not the big one. So I would skip a big gift.

I agree with the others - - no big deal for 8th grade.
They're certainly not 'done' by any means!

how about a card and a stuffed animal.........(dollar store)
I do not think its required to give gifts just a jester......these kids will enjoy being together to celebrate more than anything....... Let us know what you decide.

The "other" planned activity is a huge group in the neighborhood are planning on playing "manhunt" on Sunday night (the day b4 graduation) ... manhunt at night like hide and seek with a flashlight.

I told her that if she gets injured playing this game the night before graduation that is her tough luck ... she will be sorry.

Could someone please give me a boost up onto my soapbox?

Well, I would have helped you up onto that soapbox but you scrambled up there so fast I didn't get a chance!

ITA with everything you wrote. If people want to have a party, fine, but it's not a graduation party. YAnd you're not a killjoy if you still let them have the party....

Technically speaking the school calls it 8th Gr. PROMOTION and a Promotion Party afterwards for 3 hrs in the gym on school property ... the idea of the party afterwards is to keep the kids from "getting into trouble" by partying .. they go right into the party after the ceremony.
