My 8th grader was 13 in Aug. Her school is planning a Washington DC trip for social studies...the teacher who is running the trip is doing it through a company that does these types of trip for kids...sounds good and legitimate. But, aren't they young at this age to take a trip like this? We live in Ca., so this would be far away for us. She would be gone 5 days. I've approved of her going, but I'm thinking she's young! I went to DC in high school.
I'm being a nervous mom, so need some advice as to what you would do.
It's also about $1900.00 total. I'm trying to make sure her dad pays for half, yeah right...we'll see...even though he says he will.
My DD has gotten all A's, just 1 C in middle school....so this would be a way of rewarding her good grades and of course she would learn a lot!
It would probably be a great trip, it's just the thought of letting my "baby" go so far away! There would be a total of 35 kids going.

I'm having my DD do some extra things, too to earn this trip. She is also looking into possible scholarships or some kind of fundraising.

I would have no problem with my son going on such a trip.

I just sent the teacher an email expressing my concern that I thought we should have been given a lot more notice than a month to figure out the finances! Thanks everyone for the encouragement about this trip. I'm feeling good about it and I think it will be a great experience for her. My girls have been on trips with their dad for a week or 2 at a time away from me, so I think I can handle it! Also, my DH's God-Daughter is going too!! Ugh! I told him he was ONLY paying for half, like we are for my DD. GD's mother better accept that or I'll have to have a little talk with her. (Can you tell she's not my favorite person?)
DH got himself into a mess with GD and her mom, IMO, it's a crazy story.
