acne starting already???

My 11 yr old ds(5th grade) has a pimple on his forehead this morning. I noticed it, but kept my mouth shut and I don't think he noticed. He has never been too concerned with personal appearance or hygiene. I know he washes his face in the evenings during his shower, but I don't think he is very good about washing his face in the mornings. I don't want to freak him out about it, but it's obvious he needs some kind of "skin care". He is good about using deoderant, doing his inhaler(advair) and taking care of his contacts, so I am sure he can learn to add his skin to his mornings. Any suggestions on what he should do? What do you have your kids wash their faces with? Is he too young for acne products?

I just make my ds11 wash more (he's not the most consistent). So far, he's had about one pimple maybe every 3 months for the last 2 years. It doesn't seem to bother him in the least, and they're gone in a day or two. I wouldn't consider more than soap and water for such slight breakouts; I'd just be happy if he washed more consistently!

Hi! My DS has been using a product called OXY5 (little round skin pads that would remind you of make up remover pads)after he washes his face each morning. He's been using it for about a year now, mostly because of tiny pimples and blackheads. He's pretty good about using his deoderant as well and really had no problem when we discussed using these products. I talket to his ped about it at his check-up this June, and she advised not to use anything really strong or products that contained large amounts of alcohol as that tends to dry their faces, which are still quite sensitive. As far as deoderant, she suggested one that is baking-soda based and not aluminum based. DS still prefers to use unscented as he finds the scented stuff a little strong yet.

My 11yo kids have been getting tiny pimples for a few months now. I have also tried to add face washing to the morning routine, but I still have to remind them. This morning, I showed Sam how oily my own forehead is in the morning, and that his is also, so he needs to wash twice a day now. I'm not sure why he resists so much! Rachel remembers more often on her own now.

My pediatrician recommended Dove and water for washing, and a lotion with 10% benzoil peroxide for breakouts, so that's what we've been doing. It sound like another poster's pediatrician had a different opinion, so you might want to check with yours.

I like the oxy pads someone suggested. Maybe that would work better for Sam in the mornings.

My son was developing a little acne around his forehead and chin area. I just bought him some Johnson and Johnson head to toe baby wash and have him wash his face twice a day with it. Before bed a couple times a week I'll apply some BP treatment. I think right now we are using Clean and Clear Invisible Blemish treament. His face has cleared up alot, although it may be because the weather is changing and he's not getting as sweaty as usual.

My son,(11 1/2) has had a few small pimples in the past but not alot. I bought the Clean and Clear face cloths. They have the soap in them and you just wet them and scrub. He can't use them daily as they make him face too dry but when he starts to get a few or get some blackheads on his nose, he will. They work really well for him.
