My dd will be 10 in December so I am hoping someone here has experienced what we're going through.

Caitie (the 11-year old girl who I am a Big Sister to in a volunteer program), has been doing this a lot lately too. She is scared to grow up, saying she just wants to stay a kid... I think it does have a lot to do with puberty. I would think that her period maybe be coming soon, but since she is only 9yo that is still a bit young.
I suggest try showing her the good things about growing up. Sorry I don't have more suggestions, just wanted to let you know that Caitie does this too. I'm sure everyone else will be able to tell you more.

Thanks Nikki -
Since she really hasn't started developing yet, I am wondering if this is the beginnings of it...like the hormones are out of whack!
Thanks Karen,
I am looking forward to her getting over this hump and hopefully enjoying getting older, but I don't want to rush it!
Welcome to our board. You have a gorgeous family. My DD is not like this (although when she was about 4 she went through that "I don't want to grow up" stage). However I have seen people post on other boards about tween who simply refuse to grow up. They won't wear a bra even when needed, freak out if the mother even makes the slightest suggestion about puberty or periods or any of that stuff. So I don't think its completely uncommon. I'm sure hormones have alot to do with the tears. The hormone changes don't just suddenly kick in one day, they happen gradually so she could be going through a period now and then it will calm down for awhile.
I think all you can do is reassure her that she'll always be your little girl, that you'll always have a special relationship and that everyone grows up, not much we can do about it. Hugs and some reassurance, although don't let her dwell on it, try and distract her with other things to keep her mind off it. I'm sure in 6 months you'll be wondering why she suddenly has posters of celebrities on her bedroom wall and is on the phone all the time. LOL That's what happened with me. Went from nothing to a full-fledged pre-teen overnight. Waaaah. LOL
Hope you decide to hang around on the board. Lots of great people and great advice.
Hi Maz,
Although this isn't something that I've gone through with my daughter, my suggestion to you would be to find new, age-appropriate ways to spend time with your DD.

Thank you so much for your advice.
Thanks Mindy, that is a good idea.

Hi Laura and thank you for the welcome!
She also told me that there are 3 (girly girls) in the class that are starting this "who likes who" in the classroom and told her who likes her.
