Since you asked... :) (I was afraid to post for fear I would offend someone. It was a truly phenomenal experience! The crowd was polite, orderly, respectful, and fun. The atmosphere was full of excitement and an overwhelming sense of history. People were laughing, crying, high-fiving, and just soaking in the moment. It was a totally appropriate place for the kids too! They had CNN on the jumbotron so we watched the returns while we waited. The crowd just exploded when they announced each state that O'Bama won. There was a little fun dancing music. The sea of faces was incredible. It was America - white, Indian, African-American, Asian, Middle eastern, you name it - everyone together, getting along, happy and full of hope! They had Michigan Avenue closed to vehicular traffic and when everything was over, we walked down the middle of the street to go home!

What a night!!

That sounds totally awesome!!

Wow, what an experience! We were glued to CNN and they kept showing Grant Park. You are right, it was truly America out there. Every race, religion and creed all together AND THERE WAS NO VIOLENCE!!

Hope you took pics...those would be priceless!!

Although we are Canadian we were rooting for Obama all the way. DDs both have Obama posters and 08 Obama buttons that a friend picked up for them while visiting the states.

What a gracious and captivating man. We watched his victory speech and it was truly inspiring. We would have loved to be there. Congrats:)

It was truly one of the greatest moments in history! I have never seen so much emotion and such a range of emotions in a large crowd. I am still overwhelmed by the visions of American flags flying high and waving in the wind. There was something in the atmosphere that bonded all of those in attendance. People were just so kind and so happy to be together. There was no pushing, jostling, no sneers or eye rolls. People were genuinely kind to each other and VERY patient! It was a celebration but with an under current of respect and awe for the importance and significance of the occasion.

My grandma says when JFK was elected everyone was excited but not NEARLY as much as the emotion for Obama.

Wow, it's neat that you have that perspective. My guess is the current excitement has something to do with the popularity of the outgoing government this time around. JMO...

That's exactly why I don't share political sentiments unless they're solicited! I'd rather not be part of an argument and I especially don't want to be the person who initiated the conversation.
