I ordered a really nice colander for myself tonight. I remembered that my brother (lives in NY) colander was sort of worn out when we were there in April...so I ordered one for him for X-mas. (I try to get him a cooking thing every year because he loves to cook) So...I have officially started X-mas shopping!

I have 2 brothers. One lives in Hudson, NY & the other in Orlando, Fl. I get both of them certain things each year. For example...NY bro...I get him something for his kitchen, something Grateful Dead'ish (he's a 'Dead Head') & something with the Simpsons on it. Then my bro in Orlando...he gets a baseball thing (Last year I got him this really groovy baseball bat pepper grinder. It's about 2 ft. tall), something with Southpark on it & a tee-shirt that has one of his favorite college teams on it.

Sylvia, I started trying to do that with DD a few years ago. I usually will pick one larger gift and then a few smaller gifts and stocking stuffers. Last year it was her balance beam and about 5 smaller gifts. It works out better because the bigger gift always is something I know she has been wanting for a while and it sort of keeps the clutter down in the house.

Tam I found that out last year after having moved away from family that I was spending more on postage than anything. I think this year I am either going to go with gift certificates or order stuff online and pay to have it gift wrapped and shipped directly to them. I told my mom that she should probably think of one or two medium gifts for Jordyn and/or gift certificates this year because last year she must have spent $50 or so on shipping all her gifts. Plus she ships things throughout the year to us, she's putting a box together now of a few pairs of jeans she got on clearance and tissue holder she made Jordyn for her room.

My Mom usually sends a few smaller things (we can ship by greyhound which is cheaper than the post office) but then sends me a check and tells me to get some stuff for DD and just put their name on it. Last year I had a blouse for my Grandma shipped to my Mom from Sears at no additional charge and then my Mom wrapped it and I had a book sent to my Grandmother for my Dad and then my Mom picked it up and wrapped it. LOL Seemed dumb to have it mailed to me then me turn around and mail it back to him. We just send school pictures and cards now to all the cousins.

My aunt was not thrilled when I said no more gifts but I knew that all the kids have more gifts than they need and one more $5 gift from me was neither here nor there. If they were poverty stricken and me dropping out would mean the kids don't have a good Christmas then I wouldn'd mind spending it, but I know they have tons. We have also the last two years gone into an informal charity thing were families who don't have any money or support don't have gifts so we enjoy buying for them.

You got my thinking about christmas. I'm in the process of looking for some wireless headphone for DH. I was thinking about getting him some Bose headphones. Might as well get him some nice ones. Since he likes to rock out.

BTW: I was a deadhead in highschool. I even snuck out one night to drive with my friends 3 hours away to a dead concert. We didn't even have tickets. :)

Where did you go see them at???
I got to go see the Dead twice. Once in Atlanta & another time in Greensboro.
Now my brother followed them around the country a couple of summers in a row. His buddy had a VW bus. They sold food & drinks out of it to the deadheads that camped out for days before the concert. He made a killing! He literally went all over the country. Calf, Wash, Texas & I can't remember where else. Something like 10 cities or more in one summer. And they drove everywhere!
I miss Jerry.
BTW...my other brother is a 'Parrothead'. (Jimmy Buffet fan)
