DYK Thread for August

**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**

DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know

It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members

That was rude! Why do you just pop into the dyk every two weeks or so and say mean rude things to one of us?

dyk Sorry that Dh has you feeling grumpy

dyk I would too

dyk While he only sees his son a few times a year, it will be painful to Emma and Madison as they get older if dad has zero time for them when DSS is visiting, especially since they are used to his daily attention

dyk Sorry that it has to be like that

dyk With a new baby and an active toddler, I'm sure it's tough to have one more person in the house esp if DH is at work and you have another adolescent during the day while you on on maternity leave

dyk Hugs. xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

They changed around of bunch of our paras this year. I don't know if it's a "usual" thing to do because this is our first year to START off with Title I paras (last year, we got them after school started). Before, there would be one para per grade level and if her schedule changed, I'm not sure because I never had a para myself.

I have the same one for 2 hours this year...yay! And 2 hours that I can definitely use her!! Last year, I had 2 different ones for 2 hours, but they put my first one in my VERY best class--even the resource students completely passed on their own! Everyone in that class strived to be THE BEST...they never had an infraction in my class the entire year, attendance was always great, they had the highest average or tied for the highest average on almost every single test or quiz. First nine weeks, no Cs!!! After that, I had one D on a report card the entire year...no Fs.

(they got a pizza party!!)

dyk <> Not familiar with Title I, can you tell me what that is?

dyk In our schools, certain teaching assistant positions are assumed to be permanent but other TA's may be in positions that are not permanent, and that is me.

dyk I have no idea what my job will be this year, the past 2 years I was with the same shared students, I followed the boys from 3rd to 4th grade but since they are both moving up to the middle school, I have no idea where they will put me

dyk supposedly the TA job assignments were done by the end of school except for 2 people (in my building only) but I have heard nothing

dyk Two years ago, I found out what my job would be the day before school started, and last year, I got a letter about 2 weeks before the start of the year.

dyk I'm not really anxious about it but I would like to know what it is that I will be doing

dyk I loved working in 4th grade but the upcoming 4th graders (many of whom I clearly remember from when I was still subbing and worked in kindergarten when they were there) are a really bad group so perhaps another grade would be more to my liking LOL!

dyk Sounds like your school year has gotten off to a wonderful start!

I think paras in elementary are more subject to getting shifted around. My job stays the same since I'm the only para for my sped teacher.

dyk INteresting how different schools do different things

dyk Here, typically in elementary, each grade 1-4 has a special ed teacher who services 2 collaborative classes, and they each have a collaborative TA who alternates in each classroom with the teacher.

Thanks Sandy. No, we are still very much in the fussies. I have an appt. with the ENT tomorrow morning. I found out last Monday that Madison has a posterior tongue tie and the lactation consultant said that is probably the source of most of the problems, a bad latch which is causing our nursing problems. Hopefully if all goes well tomorrow we should be our way to getting things on track and thing will hopefully get better.
