DYK Thread for August
**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**
DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know
It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members

Glad to know the job is going well Sandy, even if it is hectic.
Thanks Mindy. I had no clue what it was, but at 6 weeks and still having so many problems nursing I finally broke down and went to the LC for help. She figured it out right away. Its not severe, and I have been working on her latch, but its really tough, she's not cooperative at all. Luckily I have oversupply, so she has been gaining weight just fine because of it. She was just over 9 pounds on Monday. I really hope the procedure helps things out.
we have SPED paras and Title I paras. SPED paras' salaries are paid using the district's SPED funds. Title I paras' salaries are paid using the school's Title I funds.
I'm probably not going to do it justice, but Title I is for a school who has at least one elementary grade 1st-5th (we have 5th now) and over half of the students receive free or reduced lunch (we are at 69%). It's a federal thing....there's Title I which is the above, Title IX allows girls to play on boys' teams if there's no girl equivalent sport (I remembered that one in my education course by saying "9 year old girls like to play football, too"). Title II and Title IV were significant too, but I can't remember what they were now (shame on me!).
But it's all federal, so every public school in the country abides by these titles IF they qualify.
SPED paras are hired to work specifically with SPED students, Title I paras are required to work for ALL students, not just SPED.
and we did get off to a great start...thanks!
I think have 300 students now (exaggeration) and 200 registered last week.....lol.
I don't know my final count, but I did have to round up another desk because one class filled my seats with 2 students absent...I'm pretty sure one student is unenrolled, but the other is on vacation.
While I appreciate the fact that you enjoy my cheery posts and I really don't have to explain myself to anyone as to why I chose to have more kids. And while I do complain about my DH quite a bit, he is a loving father and his work is seasonal, so its the summer that is isn't home very much and his furthering his education is very important to both of us. Most of the ladies who actual frequent this thread and know each other instead of just popping in on occasion to make rude comments know that my 14 year old is from an earlier relationship. While I do love my children very much, I think anyone who has had a toddler and an infant know that it is stressful at times and I was upset last night and obviously shouldn't have bothered to vent here.

okay..that is a bit different from us. For the most part (and it does change a little every year), we have (just SPED paras) one that works with the 8th grade inclusion, one that works with the 7th grade inclusion (who this year is now a special 5th, 6th, & 7th grade reading teacher as well), one that works with 6th grade inclusion and this year 6th grade resource as well--same situation with 5th grade, and then one who works with the 7th & 8th grade resource teacher.
Normally, they don't move up with the kids. Normally...sometimes, they do, though. Year before last, one of our VERY long-time paras (had been there longer than any other faculty member!!!) retired and the 7th grade para moved up to 8th grade (the same group of kids *I* Had for 2 years...yikes!!!!).
