DYK Thread for August
**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**
DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know
It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members

If you are so inclined, please say a prayer for one of *my* babies who is having surgery today. She is about a year and a half.
Thanks!

DYK good morning Alysha...I sent an email back to you since I didn't really want to post every detail on the board.
Girls Lax: Grace, Speed, Power
This is really to anyone & anybody out there w/ advice. I am very new to this site & don't know how to even ask a question, so sorry if this is in the wrong place. So far all I know how to do is "post a reply."
Anyway, I have one child, turning 10 soon, & I am contemplating purchasing & giving him a trampoline. I always hated the things, mainly due to safety issues & the fact that they seem to take up so much room in the yard. However, they do seem to have made some progress toward making them much safer now & I do have an awfully big yard.
There is a newer one out called "springless" which does seem to be safer but also much, much more expensive. If I am going to get one, however, it will be as safe as possible, regardless of cost.
Does anyone have any advice? I have read the concerns & am wondering if I am a bad mom for even thinking about it....
I dont really have any advice, but Kassidy has had a trampoline since she was about 6. (She'll be 11 this month) She doesnt use it so much anymore but she use to make me a nervous wreck to watch her sometimes.
I would make it as safe as possible. But either way, I'm sure he'll enjoy it.
wow..your state has tenure too? I talk about tenure with teachers from other states and their clueless....apparently, not many states do tenure any more.
We get tenured on our first day of our fourth year, so I was tenured at the start of last year.
What are your professional development requirements?
I'm not sure what (if any) our paras are required. As a teacher, and fairly new (after 2002), I now have to get 150 CLUs (continuing learning units...one unit per hour of PD) every 5 years.
Now, another teacher, who has been teaching for ages, thought she wasn't required to get these hours--I thought she wasn't required as well (as do every teacher at my school that has been around for a while), but a co-worker of hers posted on Facebook that she IS required to do the CLUs. I think the co-worker is incorrect, but since I don't fall into that category, I only need to worry about MY stuff..lol.
