Barbie is turning 50 today

They say a barbie is bought three times every second... (i dont know how they come up with this) However, after reading and finding out her Measurements have not changed. Except in 1990 something her waist was enlarged by i think two inches....

The question is. Do you think Barbie has helped or made worse the way little girls think of themselves? Why do you think that? Do you think it would be better for Barbie to change her measurements? as a bonus do you agree with Tattoo Barbie (you get to choose the tattoos for her to wear they are the washable kind?

**Honestly, I don't think it's made a difference either way.

Barbie is a doll. I think Disney and it's movie princesses have more to answer for than Barbie! I played with Barbies some as a girl, but not much. Daisy never played with them at all.

Barbie's measurements have never bothered me. Though I am a bit disturbed by the pregnant Barbie that the baby belly pops out and immediately gets turned around and is flat. :-)

I have no problem with Tattoo Barbie, it reminds me of color change hair Barbie or whatever she was. I'm sure lots of little girls have mommies with tattoos so what's the big deal?

I was never allowed Barbie as a girl because my mom didn't like the image she portrayed. She was afraid it would make me grow up too fast. I had Skipper and Francie (and the camper) because they were younger. This was a source of great contention between my mom and I. The funny is she gave me a bride Barbie when I got married. :)

Megan had a few Barbies but only played with them for about a year and a half and has given most of them away. I was never really too worried about the body image they portrayed. I am a member of the NO BRATZ ALLOWED club. I don't like the lack of clothing, the makeup, the attitude the face portrays, etc. I also won't buy them as birthday gifts. There are so many other fun and worthwhile things to give as gifts!!!!

I don't have daughters, and the nieces were either not interested in Barbies or aren't interested in them.

I loved mine, but they were part of a collections of toys. I saw these as a tool that made it easier for me to do role plays. Barbies are what children make out of them. For me, they were active females with exciting careers like my friends' mothers or ones I was interested in (paediatrician, surgeon, pilot, stewardess, teacher, etc). Mine had cars, flew planes, told GI Joe that she was taking him helicopter and that he could sit at the back of the plane like a good boy because she was in charge.

ITA about a Bratz!! I can't stand them, and won't let my girls have them. Luckily, they've never asked. They like Polly Pockets and My Little Ponies. They have a few Barbie dolls, but they don't play much with them for some reason. Maybe they're not old enough yet (They're 5). I had Barbies when I was little, too, and played some, but was never that into them.

I guess I personally don't really have a problem, but it would be nice if Barbie had some friends that didn't have teeny waists and huge boobs.
