This season was not a good one for baseball due to the weather. It rained out sooo many games and we were having to make up make up games. The county athletic association decided it was a good idea to end it. The last few games the fields were so muddy and with no practice time ( due to rain as well) the boys didn`t get to play their best. They are all getting a trophy for participation and an end of season party later. I am glad that we can rest a little more now. Who would have thought it would rain more than be dry this time around? Hope everyone is having a great week!

What a shame! It's so hard because there really isn't anything you can do about the weather ... but it doesn't make it easier when you've planned your days and schedule around an activity, then not get to participate. Our season 'ended' a few weeks ago ... although there were many teams that played 2-3 weeks longer as they had many rained-out games they needed to make up. We were lucky this season in that we only had 1 game called for rain ... and it was the last game, they played 3 innings, and it ended in a tie. Neither team was contenders for 1st/2nd place, so it didn't really matter either way. We still have county All Stars (next week, perhaps?) and Kevin made that team. He's now playing travel ball ... and so far, I've spent a lot of time watching him NOT play. Their tournament Memorial Day weekend was rained out ... they played 2 of the 3 scheduled games, and we spent all day Sunday waiting to see what would happen. Last weekend, they had a practice game scheduled (reserved the field and all) ... and after 2 innings, the police landed their helicopter right in the middle of the field. No emergency, just a scheduled police demonstration! Hello? How can you reserve a field and have the park not know this would be taking place? It's getting a bit frustrating. But, he has 2 really good coaches, and they practice 2x a week ... and it's the practice that really is the reason we allowed him to do this because he's learning a lot. (We also have him in karate ... a nice 'indoor' activity that takes place rain or shine!)

Hopefully this season won't discourage your DS from participating in the future. As much as I never was a fan of baseball, it really is a fun sport, and the kids learn so much ... about sports and teamwork and all of that.

We've missed/rescheduled a lot of games, too, including the all-star game. I think Rachel's game will be rained out tomorrow morning. But, they haven't canceled the season yet. Only a couple of weeks to go. Have a good weekend! -Janet
