Quinn told me tonight that one of his neighborhood friends got her belly button pierced yesterday afternoon. She just turned 13 towards the beginning of the month. I was surprised. Then again, I'm the mother of a 12 year old boy & maybe I'm just naive about this. I thought they would have to be older, but I guess it's no different than piercing ones ears. The reason the conversation came up is because a big group of them get together & play 'hide & go seek' just about everyday. She didn't join them today & I asked where she was. That's when he told me. Is this the norm???

I have a girl scout troop of 12-13 year old girls and none have their bellies pierced, yet. No peircings, other than the hole we put in each lobe of her ears, are allowed under my roof.

There are lots of girls that have their bellies and other body parts pierced. Personally i would never allow it at this age.

Well I think that there is a HUGE diffrence be piercing ears and piercing your belly button and I don't think that 13 year olds should have any other piercings besides there ears if they want that. I've already told my 12 year odl DD that she shouldn't even think about getting her belly button pierced until she is 16, and then we will talk about it.
But I just don't think that a 13 year old getting a piercing is right.

Not the norm in my house. LOL But my neighbor's daughter who babysits for me had her bellybutton pierced at 13. I would have guessed she was at least 14 or 15 to look at her. But I have a real thing about body piercings. Like tattoos when you are legally able to get it yourself, you are welcome to it. But until then the only thing I'm paying or agreeing to have stuck into your body is earrings. Piercings give me the heebie jeebies.

Forgot to add that as long as the parent signs the consent form they will do it on a 5 year old (well maybe that's exaggerating) but I don't think legally here they can pierce without parental consent until 16. Seems to me the age is lower than tattoo which is 18. Not 100% sure though, might be the same.

There is no way in "you know where" that I would consent for my minor child to get anything pierced other than ears. When they turn 18, they are free to do(and pay for) whatever they want.

YIKES! 13 is young. I know in CA, you cannot be pierced under 18 w/o oarental consent. Heck, you can't even go into the tattoo/piercing shop if you are under 18. Now, of course, you can find some sleazeball that will do it but its illegal.

We will NOT willigliy break the law in our house. My kids will have to wait until they are 18.
