Well, I just dropped off my kids at SCHOOL!!! Evan started middle school without much drama at all on his part. He's very excited! I can't wait to hear how it went. I walked Megan to her 2nd grade class and then went to the PTA volunteer sign up and chit-chatted a little. Megan will be done at 11:50 so I'll walk over and pick her up and she and I can bake the traditional back to school "black board" cake.
Megan has gymnastics tonight and then we'll probably go to a new bowling alley to celebrate.
Not really anything special in terms of a recipe. It's all in the decorations... I make a regular yellow cake (sometimes even from a box - gasp!)and decorate it like a blackboard with chocolate or green frosting and white trim. I usually use primary colored frosting to write a back to school message that includes the year they are in and then we take pictures. Sort of a back-to-school tradition here.
It's really pretty easy... I make a yellow cake (but it could be any flavor and even from a mix if that works for you) and then use either chocolate or green (vanilla with green food coloring) frosting. I leave it in the pan and outline it with white to look like an old fashioned chalkboard and use primary colors to write a back-to-school message on it. I always include their grade on the message and then we take pictures. Sort of our back-to-school tradition here.
Thanks, the photo is over a year old now, since it's from when we went to Disneyland June 06, but I'm waiting to get some new photos of the kids before I request a new siggy.
