you poor thing......and your son.........oh my.........i have heard that its possible to get the pox a second time.......but i have not heard of them getting it though the vaccination. I guess all you can do is deal with the issue at hand. I would certainly be questioning the first vaccination though. Take care.

They say if you get a very mild case of CP the first time around then the natural immunity isn't always built up as well and there is a possibility of getting it again if you are exposed later in life.

Gabby did get the booster last year.In fact she needs to have the booster for next year, unlless she had the chicken pox. There is actually a seperate vaccine for the shingles,I know my mom's drs wants her to get it.They mainly give the shigle vacciine to older people, since they tend to get shingles more and it is supposed to be really painful, much worse than the cp.

My older one, now 11.5, had a mild case of CP when in daycare....the dr at her last check up said she didn't need the CP vaccination since she'd gotten it & as a result had some immunity. My ydd however never got it but had been exposed to it thru her older sis so the dr had her get the vaccination.

I had a coworker get it twice, once when she was young then again in her 20s. She thought she couldn't get it twice so offered to take care of her nephew since her sis had never gotten CP. Boy what a mistake, since its worse the older u are! So definitely possible to get it twice I think.

Boy, is it ever!

My mom got shingles when I was in HS--she said it hurt like h#ll!

After reading this thread, I'm definitely going to make sure Sherina gets the booster; she had the first shot @ her one-year-old well-baby checkup & has yet to get chicken pox.

There's a simple blood test they can do to check the titer (concentration of antibodies) in your son's blood to determine if he has enough to make him immune. That should tell you whether he needs the booster. What probably happened was that your son's first case wasn't enough to make him fully immune, so the second one came around. It should do the trick, but ask for a blood test just in case.

This is one reason why I don't like the CP vaccine. It doesn't guarantee you won't get shingles (there are cases of vaccinated people getting shingles) and a full blown, natural

With his first breakthrough I found out that it had been happening a lot.

Gosh I have no clue---have you tried calling the doctor just to get their perspective?

My son had a chicken pox vaccine when he was very young, and two cases of break through chicken pox when he was in kindergarten and second grade.

My understanding of the vaccine is that it doesn't prevent chicken pox entirely. It does however, prevent severe cases (the ones kids used to die from) from occuring.
