Can I brag for a minute?

My ds had the BEST day yesterday!!!!!! I got an email from his teacher telling me what a GREAT job he's been doing in class both with his school work and as a leader. This is HUGE for him because he has a history of being a little bit of a problem in class (mostly because he's bored and the other kids just don't think on his level - he tested in the 80% for 8th graders as a third grader last year) and doesn't always get along with most of the kids in the class.

AND he told me after school yesterday that he got caught being good (helping someone in the hall) which means his name gets read during announcements today and he gets put in a drawing for a prize tomorrow.

I am so proud of him!!! We've been tackling issues like this since he was 3 and it looks like we're finally making progress. I know he's good at heart because I see it shine through when the going is tough but this is the first time it's come out of nowhere!

Thanks for letting me brag. It was a banner day for him!

Well done!!!! Congrats on turning that corner. I'm sure that positive reinforcement will go twice as far as drawing attention to the negative stuff!! Be proud Mom!

It is wonderful to hear he is doing so well. Is he in a gifted class or is he at least getting more challenging work? I hope the school is meeting his academic needs.

Thanks!!! Don't get me started on the gifted thing... I'm liable to blow a gasket. I've been fighting to get him extra, meaningful work for 2.5 years. He's finally getting some additional educational work this year. Our district doesn't really start gifted programming until 6th grade and he's in 4th. And then they only take the top 2% in the district. So everyone in the 3% and below is left to languish in mediodrity. He is pulled out for special math projects once in a while and he and a few other kids get more challenging spelling. We also have him in a program for gifted kids at a local university on Saturday mornings. This semester he's learning about DaVinci. They've built gliders and parachutes and tomorrow he's going to build a tank. He's just LOVING it. He's alot like DaVinci - inquisite, loves to learn, and a real Renaissance man.
