Strange place to ask this - but i have kids around this age ----
they take showers at nite - but i really wonder-

How often do you change out your kids' sheets?

I've been doing it once a week & wondering if I could cut back in that one element of my life!

Actually it means that my son stips his own bed and carries the sheets down to the laundry area in the basement. He then gets clean sheets out of the linen closet and makes up his own bed. I just wash the old sheets, fold them and put them in the linen closet. It's been this way since he was 8 years old. He's 13 now.

My tween doesn't do this. I should start having her do it. Bad me!

My kids change their own sheets about every week to ten days. They do strip, wash, fold, or put back on the bed. My oldest has been doing this since she was nine and the other two for a few years now. They can definitley strip a bed (age wise) before they can put the sheets back on themselves.

Like someone else said I have to step out of the room and just let them do it or I'll be inclined to "do it right". The longer they do it on their own the better they get at it.

Let me ask this... Do they make their own beds? If so, they might enjoy one day a week where they get to "unmake" their bed instead. That's how I got my kids to do it. They strip their bed before they go to school instead of making it and put the sheets someplace where it's easy for me to get them into the washer. By the time they go to bed, the sheets are folded and stacked on their bed waiting to be put on. My oldest (10 yo) doesn't mind putting the sheets on and throwing the blankets on top before he goes to bed. The youngest (6 yo) needs help mostly because she has a loft bed with a very tight mattress - even I have trouble with it.

Here's another thought... Do they really need a top sheet? My kids don't like them and that makes both stripping and making the bed easier. I do have to wash their blankets a little more often but...

Good point about a top sheet -

My 8.5 yo insists on sleeping naked! & I almost always find the top sheet squashed off to the side & only the comforter over her!

I don't use top (flat) sheets on my bed and Aly doesn't on her bed either.

I just wish I could find a DEEP king fitted sheet without being a set....the only DEEP sheets I can find are in sets and I just can't pay $65-100 for a set when I won't even use one of the sheets! ACK!

I have the kids strip their beds once a week, and I put on the fresh sheets. It is good to do for allergies, there are mites that live on our beds, that can iritate allergies. My kids don't have any problems with allergies, but it is more of preventative maintence on my part.

It's a good idea to have *them* do it once a week. This reduces the dust mite population, which thrives on warm moist environments and can control allergies if they're a problem for your family. I just started having my kids do it (ages 10 and 11.9). They're struggling with the weekly thing, but are getting better.
