Welcome to competitive sports ===at this age the kids are taught to handle themselves--moms and dads are not to interfere initially but the kids need to handle things. I think you are trying to be too involved and at this age and from here on out, parents are not encouraged to interfere with the coaching.
I clearly do not agree with the way the coach handled your daughters injury and I agree with the steps you took--however--playing the devil's advocate----you stated that your daughter and the other girls are scared of the coach--so is it possible your daughter did play the injury off in fear of being yelled at, as the coach stated?
Also the closed door policy is pretty common, again at this level. THey don't want parents interferring, they need to be in control and not have parents getting involved.
Now after saying all of this please know I do not agree with the way the coach is acting---however I am going through the same thing with my daughters volleyball coach.

Maybe it's the cheerleading atmosphere that prevents parents from watching?
As for the OP, I would be concerned about the facial injury, but not the coaches attitude towards the girls. They are probably trying to establish the boundary of they are the coaches, not their friends. As my kids get older, (7th and 9th gr.) I have them call their coaches and the coaches have requested this because they are old enough to deal with it.
Laura, didn't realize Em's VB coach has such an, uh, interesting personality. I think its sad that she's resorted to that manner since there are more than one ways to skin a cat so to speak. Being firm so teens don't walk over you is one thing but being nasty/abusive is different IMHO.
Just curious does Em just keep quiet most of the time? I know Rach probably would but then come home & tell me about it.
