We talked about how much to give for Christmas, now let's hear some gift ideas!

What do your kids want/what is on their lists this year? Have you even discussed it yet? When do you start your shopping?

Well, so far the only things I've gotten her is a video karaoke system. It was on sale for $175, regular $300 but I had to buy it before Oct. 8. So that is the main one. She has gone through the Sears Wishbook (catalogue that truly signals Christmas is coming when it arrives in Canada) and put marks by what she wants. I've also ordered her a little wooden trinket box, some stacking wildcats, a puzzle and that's about it so far. I would like to get her a nice fuzzy sweater but I'll have to do some searching for that. Probably a movie if there are any good ones out, maybe some googies from Claires, a game, etc. I find as she's gotten older its gotten harder. I might look for something for her bedroom as well.

We actually discourage our son from asking for items. I know if there is something he is wanting or saving up for and sometimes I'll help him get that item as a gift, but I do not support him asking for something specific. IMO when someone asks you to buy something specific for a gift so we have never allowed it.

I'm actually done 90% of my shopping. I still have to get two extended family gifts (we do a name draw, which will be done at Thanksgiving this year so I have no clue who dh and I are to buy for).

Connor (13) will be getting a Ball cap from his dream school from his dad, a dvd/cd double disk set from me, and his santa gift is a $30 gift card to the local comic book shop.

I was just talking to my boys this weekend about their Wish Lists as I know that I want to start shopping soon and Grandparents will be asking before long.

Here are some ideas that they gave me:

Ds-12 wants a vintage LeBron HS jersey (on sale at Eastbaby!), a b-ball that never needs reinflated~don't recall the name, itunes gift card, has mentioned in the past an ipod docking station with speakers, a hat from a college he likes. NBA '07 for PS2

Ds-9 wants an ipod, Nascar '07 for PS2, a new skateboard, skateboard "stuff",

Man, I should have written it down because now I am forgetting! We were in the van though, so will have to ask them again so I can jot down specifics!

I have ideas - I jot stuff down during the year.
I usually get Hannah (12) body shop stuff. :)
I'm thinking about getting HAnnah and DH the new gamecube system when it comes out.

Hannah just put a magazine clipping of the new Wii (gamecube) system. It's 250.00 dollars. Bummer -

The thing is DH is really into the games too. Maybe I'll buy it for the both of them. I never know what to get DH for christmas anyway. Wine, wine, wine and more wine.

I usually like to start my shopping early, but this year has been difficult.

Quinn wants expensive stuff. "The difference between men & boys is the price of their toys." That old saying is slowly becoming true. Every year the price of what he wants goes up.
Up until about a 3 weeks ago, we was wanting an electric guitar. Now he wants a 12 string guitar 1st, then to get an electric one. (Doesn't matter, I can't afford either) I think that he needs to ace the acoustic before moving up. He is good, but has only been taking lessons since Jan.
The other thing he wants is a 4-wheeler. We live near woods. He & his friends all talk about how great it would be if they all had 4-wheelers. One of them has one. But I cannot afford to get him one, so he will have to dream on.
Usually by now, I've come up with an idea for something for him...but I am stumped. He's getting too old for 'toys'. When he sees a commercial for RC cars & etc., he talks about how cool they are, but he looses interest in them rather quickly. I've bought him a few through out the years. He might play with it for 2 or 3 days. It would be nice if you could just rent them!
He has a Playstation 2 (I think that's what it is). But says he doesn't have a desire for the new something system that is due out (or perhaps it's already came out) because he has a lot of games & would not be able to play them in it.
He likes decorative knives & has a couple. He saw one at a shop we were in last week. I might get him that one. I would like to figure out a way for him to display them, but yet be able to take them out of the sheath. While he has a few pocket knives, he doesn't have the basic Swiss Army knife. So that's a possibility.
He saw a Jimi Hendrix poster that he really liked at the skateboard shop he likes to go to. I was going to get it for his b-day, but decided he needed a watch more. So, there's another thing I could get for him. Maybe put it in a poster frame. That would make a good gift because we are remodeling his room. Getting rid of the old furniture. He has a brand new bedroom suit that's sitting in the garage. Painting the walls & pulling up the carpet. My friends & I purged his room last week. Got rid of a lot toys he's out grown. We kept the Legos (he still playes with them) & his Thomas The Tank Engine railroad track system (his all time favorite toy when he was a little boy).
I bought him a tool box a couple of years ago with some basic tools. My goal is to add 1 or 2 tools every year. This year I'm thinking about needle nose pliers & wire cutters. He's needs them. He's borrowed mine a few times.
I always buy him an outfit. Usually something a little neater than something that he would pick out. I also would like to get him a BAM or Element shirt. (his skateboard is an Element, BAM design)
As far as his stocking goes, I always get him some fun boxers & a couple of Christmasy chocolates. This year, I'm thinking an ITunes download card & some new bike gloves (his will be worn out by then) would be a good idea.
