So today I did a random inspection of backpacks...today might have been the wrong day. 2 out of 3 offspring had backpacks from HADES! I was LIVID!

To be honest with you I don't know the last time I actually looked inside Gabby's backpack.Lord knows what is in there.Although in all honesty Gabby has binders with pencils pouches for everyclass, plua an extra binder that she sometimes uses so she does not have to lug several binders home on a nightly basis. She has diveders in this for each class and she then puts the papers in the right binder in the am.Gabby is also very good about giving me papers to sign,so I do not worry to much.According to her teachers she is very organized for a 12 year old.Believe me you would not think this if you ever saw her bedroom.I also quit looking in her daily planner, because 1/2 the time she does not write in it and that does drive me nuts. However, she always turns stuff in on time and for the most part she gets stuff done early rather than at the last min..I also think that if I did look in the backpack I would get annoyed,so I don't bother since Gab seems to keep up with all she has too.I also don't know if she borrows pencils or not (she may),becasue if I knew she was borrowing a pencil everyday it would annoy the heck out of me so I don't ask and she does not tell me;-).If Gabby was not an A student I probably would look more, but she is and she is 12 and eventully she has to figure it out for herself,so I am done micromanaging, becasue believe me I just get annoyed if I do.

Well I guess I am anal. Jasmin is my honor roll student (4 A's 3 B's) and she never misses an assignment but I STILL check her backpack and it irks me! Julian is also an Honor roll student and never misses an assignment but he hardly ever gives me papers to sign ON TIME! Go figure, right?

*sigh*

I always start the year off checking their bags daily, but I never stick with it.

I haven't checked backpacks in over a month. So i added a "Backpack Cleanup" reminder to my blackberry for once a week. That way the kids can get into the routine of tidying their backpacks. I probably need to wash Jasmin's. She has a cloth messenger bag from abercrombie. I'm sure that thing is crawling with germs. Plah

I have to just laugh. sorry. Jackie is so organized its scary. everything has a place and every place has it specific thing....lol except she does not know when her next test is or what subject. Whats up with that??? Okay and have you seen her room lately??? yea some organized place that is-- NOT! but her locker is perfect. Who knows. I just ask and if she gives me then i sign. If not then her problem. I just try to ask everyday usually she will let me know. Good Luck.

I check backpacks when I think about it. I should probably institute a weekly clean out too. Last time I checked Megan's (3rd grader) it was full of mis-matched socks, food wrappers, crumbs, a mess of pencils (oh, that's why I don't have any left in my desk Megan said after I showed them to her), and tons of crumbs. I haven't checked Evan's (6th grader)in about a month so I have no idea what I'd find.. Too scary to think about! I do check their swimming bags (both kids are competitive swimmers and have practice 3 -5 times/week) twice/week so any wet clothes, towels, suits, etc. don't get NASTY. Learned that lesson the hard way!! I discovered that Evan was making trips to the vending machine on his way out to the car this way too. I also put away laundry so the kids are used to me going into their drawers and I have an excuse when they're teens! SNEAKY ME!

The day Gabby starts putting her own laundry away is the day I will become very suspious!I will put stuff on her bed for her to put away and I end up putting it away,so if she starts doing it I will think she is hiding something;-)

I do random checks of their drawers because they are labeled (per their request). Since I took the time to label them they MUST take the time to keep them organized. When I go through the drawers and see stuff in them that don't belong THE WHOLE DRAWER IS TOSSED! When all is well they are gifted with a $5 gift card of their choice (dairy queen, game stop, best buy etc).

The two backpack hoarders are constantly getting their drawers tossed!!!
