school spelling bee. She's the only one in her class that got 100% on every spelling test this yr. Its amazing what happens when the teachers actually slow down to teach & don't worry about a stupid state test. dee

Yay, WTG Nik!!!!
Best of luck!!!

I don't mean to downplay this great achievement, but I have a funny story about spelling bees.
My nephew, who is definitely not known for spelling, comes home one day and tells his mom he won third place in the spelling bee and is the alternate at the district level (2 from each school compete). She is so thrilled that they take him out to eat and everything--this is a BIG deal! He reveals the truth during dinner--there are only 3 students in his grade level!! (It's a 6th grade only thing, and he normally had class with 6th & 7th graders at a VERY, VERY small private school.)

That is funny. Nik's school is just 4th & 5th grade. There are about 6 4th grades & 8 5th grades. She's had quite a switch from her past school experiences & I'm just happy that she's having a very positive school yr. I think it will be very helpful when she starts middle school to have a couple of positive yrs. behind her.
I told her tonight not to worry to much about the spelling bee its an honor being chosen. She was concerned about be knocked out 1st round & I reminded her someone had to be 1st & she should do fine anyway. She never heard of a spelling bee until this yr. they never did things like that in her school in FL. it wasn't on the FCAT. Dee
