Did u get the new Harry Potter book yet?

Harry Potter book 5 arrived at my doorstep at 8:30 this morning. I don't normally purchase books, but have been buying this series, since it would be impossible to get from the library for ages! Plus, Sam and I reread them ;-)

If you have the book or are getting it, are you reading it too? I'm going to read it before Sam. I'm telling him it's to make sure the content is OK, which is true. I also just want first dibs, LOL! I read reviews today which indicate it's not as dark as book 4, and Harry's interest in girls is handled nicely. I'll let you know what I think.

What's the HP update in your house?

We had the book Saturday morning before 10:30a when it was dropped off on our doorstep. Robert is reading it first (he's the one who talked the rest of us into reading the HP series, so it seemed only fair to let him read the newest one first LOL). Our plans after he's done are for me to start reading it and get a few pages ahead, then Sean and I will read it together. This way I get to read it twice in the same time frame (plus if I want to read more on any particular day, I can without compromising where he and I are in the book.)

Hi Janet. OK, I'm trying to visit more now. :o)

You may remember that I was always so frustrated that Jonathan didn't like to read and I couldn't find a book to entice him to read b/c he wanted to read rather than to have me nagging him to read. Well, Harry Potter has succeeded in turning our entire household back to books. We were all late to the game but after completely enjoying the 1st movie we decided that we should read the books. DH and I both started reading the books actually after we saw the second movie (LOL, we take our time sometimes following through with decisions!). Anyway I finished up the 1st 2 books very fast. DH had this idea that he didn't want to read the next bks until after the movie (that's my DH!).

I finally decided DH was wrong and *I* had to read the next 2 bks (I really LOVE them). We had a Scholastic book fair in May and it was buy 1 book / get 1 free so I bought the last 2 bks. I finished them both up within 1.5 mths.

Anyway, meanwhile Jonathan started reading the Sorcers Stone but he kept having to stop to read book report books. He did complete bk 1 and loved it. Then he started the Chamber of Secrets and was enjoying that as well. Again, he was not able to very well organinze his reading for pleasure and reading for school so he tool a while to finish bk#2. Well, he finished it just before school ended and has started on book #3 and is loving it.

I can't wait to buy book 5 but I'm also not one to HAVE TO HAVE IT FIRST so I'll see if I can get it from Costco. I'll get it when I can.

ours just came from bn.com today... dd isn't home from school yet so she doesn't know but she's been looking forward to it all weekend! she'll read it first and then me -

i'm sure she'll have it finished in 2 days!

I have had the book on order and got an e-mail that it has been shipped. I too am going to read it before I read it to ds since book 4 was a little darker than I hoped and I left some parts of it out when I read it to the ds (the part with the spell cast to revive Voldemort) I hope that the original theme is still the same and will have to see if I need to wait about reading to the younger ds Timothy about the girl interests or not. I have loved all the other books so I have been looking forward to this book! Hopefully it will come in the mail this week! Wish we could have been reading it when all this rain fell this spring around here but will probably be reading it at night anyway with the summer break in full swing now.

Well, I'm a bit slower than the kids. LOL Kevin has read 1-4 thus far, but I want to read them WITH him, so I make him read them with me before we see the movie. So, we've together read 1 and 2, and recently started 3 (although he knows exactly what is happening and what will happen next ... I like to read it with him. It's a rare quiet time we have.) So, we're on #3 together. He's read 4, and I'm sure I'll be getting the latest sometime this week ... but it'll be awhile before I read it. I love Harry Potter and enjoy the books and the movies. Sometimes I want to read ahead when Kevin doesn't want to read with me, but I love experiencing this with him. And, I'm sure that Kelli (now 7) will like to read them when she's a little older ... although she's seen the first 2 movies, and likes to listen to the books.

WTG to your dd for making the effort and winning great prizes!!! I started reading the book yesterday, and wish I'd reread book 4, because there are references to it, and I have a terrible memory! Of course, the author does explain enough to refresh my memory.

I don't have the book yet but probably will buy it in the next few days. We went to Harry Potter Day at Waldenbooks at our mall today and they had a costume contest. DD dressed as Ginny Weasley since she has red hair and she was the ONLY kid in a costume. So she won the prizes. She got a $50 gift certificate to the mall, a Harry Potter hat, 4 cool bookmarks and some Bertie Botts every flavor beans. We were so excited! (especially about that gift certificate!)

I'm thinking I might do a reread of book 4 while dd is at camp this week and then we can read the new one together when she gets back.
