Digital cameras...

Our DS will be 12 in 3 weeks. He says he wants a digital camera for his birthday. Do any of your kiddos have their own cameras? DH thinks he's too young for his own camera. Any advice? Thanks.

Hi - I've been lurking but haven't posted, but thought it was a good question. I think a digital camera would be a great gift for a 12 year old. My DD is 10, and travels with a National cheer team, and she loves to take pictures of competitions, etc. I think it's a great way for them to 'document' their memories and their friends. If you feel he is responsible enough to keep track of it, then I'd say it's a great idea. I probably wouldn't buy the most expensive one, but something that takes decent pictures.

My dd has a Kodak Easy Share and loves it. She has had it for a year and half now. My ds has a cheapy digital one, it was only around 50. He is 9 and loves having a camera. Dd had a regular film camera until that time. The Kodak is written up Consumer Reports as being a dependable, affordable camera. I just got one for my dad off of that report and since we have had good luck with dds!

My DD has the Kodak EasyShare as well. She figured out how to use it quickly and even installed the software and photo printer herself!

My daughter is 13. She got a new digital camera for passing. I gave it to her early because her 4H group has a camera club going on this year. This way she learns all about the camera from people who know about photography. It is great hobby that could lead into a profession. I think the price you pay for the camera would depend on the maturity of your son. If not a digital maybe you know of someone that has a good camera they are not using anymore and wouldn't mind letting you borrow/buying it. Good luck :)

DAve,

Thank you SO much for this great information. I definitely learned something and I will most certainly use this info when purchasing a camera. Thanks again!
