Do you and your kids enjoy a zoo?

We're on spring break. A lot of families are away, but we're enjoying it at home this time. Yesterday, I took the kids (Sam and Rachel are 10yo twins) and a 10yo friend/neighbor to the Phila. zoo. We had a beautiful day and a fun time! The primates were really active, and it was so much fun to watch them swing on ropes and ladders and playing with each other. The otters were also playful, and the hippo and rhino were actually up and moving around, for once, LOL! The kids were SO good, even in the traffic jam on the way down :-( I just love this age!

S&R were actually not that excited about going, but *I* love the zoo, LOL! I'm so glad we ended up having a great day. When was the last time you were to a zoo with the kids? Do they enjoy it?

We have a great zoo in Miami, and I've had a membership since DS was a baby ... I lost all my 'baby weight' by walking that zoo with DS in a stroller. He doesn't enjoy it like he used to, although he'll go at least once a year with me. DD (who was 7 yesterday) loves it, and we spend many days walking around. Still a great source of exercise for me, and a nice way to spend the day together. AND, since I have an annual pass, it's an inexpensive afternoon ... only pay for food and drinks. I have a 'family membership' but put myself down as a single parent with 4 kids ... that way, I can take 1 adult 'guest' and up to 4 kids. Makes for a fun day. (Ours also has a summer camp, and my kids have done a week each summer for the past 2-3 years.)

Yes, we love the zoo also. Our Spring Break was last week. We got a suite in Louisville and spent two nights using the indoor pool. DD took a friend along and they got along wonderfully with 4yr DD.

The animals at our zoo were also very active, especially the gorillas. We could have spent a lot longer looking at them, but I felt guilty for being there so long. We just purchased an annual membership so it really cut down on the cost of our trip. With spending the night, we weren't able to take along the much-needed stroller. I'll rent one of theirs next time!!

But yes, we love the zoo. We haven't been very often but plan to visit a lot more. With the season pass, we don't feel obligated to see "everything" and wear ourselves out.

We used to go a lot more when ds10.5 was younger, but now we likely only go 3-4 times a year, which is sad, because our zoo is free (St. Louis) and wonderful. Sometimes he'll get in a mood to go see a particular creature, but otherwise it's 'eh' in his book now. I LOVE going, regardless of weather/time of year. Maybe I'll drag him this weekend...

We are hoping to find a nice big one to visit this summer. There is a tiny one about 1 1/2 hours from us that we used to take dd too. But we haven't been in about 5 years. I want to take them to a really big one this summer. We are thinking about maybe going to Asheboro, NC to the one there. When I was in 5th grade my family went to Pittsburg and to the big zoo there but a friend of mine went last summer and said it's not very good anymore.

My kids LOVE animals of all kinds so I know they would enjoy it and so would I!
