Do you answer the phone when..

You can't talk?? I have to get opinions about this. My mom and sister both like to do this when I call, sometimes. After they answer, they say "OH, I can't talk now, I'm busy with the kids...etc." or today my mom said she couldn't even think straight, let alone talk....she was feeling sick today....which I understand, but don't answer the phone if you feel so bad or you're so busy!
So why answer the phone in the first place?? I don't get it and I think it's rude. I would rather talk to an answering machine! I have caller ID, so I always look to see if i want to talk to the person anyway.
That's the end of my vent. I think.

Nope, and I almost always do not answer during school time.

I dont answer the phone when I do not want to. Even if its across the room i will not get up. But I have this friend that will call several times and even my cell several times if i do not answer the phone. I hate it then I have to tell my friend that i can not talk. And its always the wrong time. Then sometimes I forget to call back and i get the twelve phone calls again.....i hate it. But i hate talking on the phone when I am not in the mood to talk.

Well, no one ever calls me. LOL I do have caller id but no answering machine. I guess the point of answering is to say "I'm not ignoring you, I'm acknowledging that you need/want to talk to me, but I can't right now, I'll call you back". I've heard of people who get annoyed because they call and their call is not returned but they are sure the person is home. That can be equally as rude from the other side I suppose. Doesn't bother me either way.

I do not. But I think it is partly a generational thing... I know my parents always seem to get freaked out if they are at my house, the phone is ringing, and I decide not to answer it... But that's what answering machines and Caller ID are for! :)

One of my best friends is single and has no kids. She also has a rather drama-filled life. Whenever she calls, she expects to chat for a l-o-n-g time. But you know how hard that is to do with kids around! And not fair to the kids, really. So, often I do screen her calls. I figure that is better than saying, "Sorry, can't talk right now."

Just because someone calls it doesn't mean I have to talk to them right then.

No, if I'm not going to devote the time to a conversation, I don't answer.

Yes, if it's family I usually do answer it to make sure it's not an emergency or something very important.

I'm the odd man out, I always answer the phone! It drives me insane that DH doesn't!! I don't know what I think I am going to miss, but I'm sure it's something. And with a couple of friends if I don't answer the home phone they will just call my cell. With other busy moms I always start my conversations with "Is this a bad time?" and we go from there. I don't care if my girlfriends tell me they will have to call back, doesn't bug me a bit.
