Do you make your child wear a jacket???

Last night, it got really cool here. Quinn missed the bus this morning so I had to take him to school. (No big deal) At that time it was 45 degrees. Quinn wore his cord jean jacket along with long jeans & a tee-shirt of some sort. And he was still a little chilly until the car was warmed up enough to turn on the heater. Anyway...my friend (Steve) was in the 'drop off' line in from of us. He has 1 child (Rianna) the same age as Quinn (we've been friends since the kids were in pre-school) we pulled up to drop our kids off & out of the car gets Rianna with NO jacket on, a mini-denim skirt (I think it was too short & probably would be against the dress code), a tight v-neck tee-shirt with short cap sleeves. I couldn't help but notice that she was freezing because her girls (nips) were standing out. I was really surprised because last summer, she & her mom went shopping. They bought a backless halter top (tastefully done) & he would not let her wear it. I rolled the window down & said "Rianna! Where is your jacket?!" Of course she just smiled & kept on walking. I should have yelled out "I can see your nipples!" Everyone could see her nipples. That shirt was so tight & it being a light blue didn't help either. BTW...she's a 7th grader.
If she was my child (I am her godmother) she would have at least been wearing a jacket. I have to sometimes remind Quinn to put on a jacket, especially in the morning. He doesn't know the temp out & doesn't know if it's cool or warm. Of course he has enough sense that if he stepped outside without one & felt that it was cool, he would come back in & get a jacket.

Since I have a 7 yo dd I usually try to tell both of them that they might want to wear a jacket. Usually they take my advice & do it -- esp now that my 5th grader is not in the main school building but in a trailer. We had the 45 degree weather this AM & both wore their warmup jackets so its not that much of an issue as when they were younger.

Now if they could just remember to bring the jackets home, LOL!!

I figure they're old enough to wear a coat or get cold.

I'd be more concerned with that shirt!

I would have insisted on a covering bra and proper clothing in lieu of the jacket!

When it gets cooler, I do insist that he takes a sweater or jacket. My son is ALWAYS hot so he really doesn't need a jacket until it's winter BUT it can be chilly at a.m recess. As long as he has it, I know that if he gets cold he has the option available.

He has a few GAP fleece pullovers that he prefers over a jacket. He'll keep one in his backpack...and I am cool with that.

Hannah wears her fleece or carries one in her backback. It doesn't really get cold enough to wear a jacket. Now a rain coat she does wear. It rains in Washington
