Does your 10-14 yo write in a journal?
| Thu, 11-16-2006 - 10:18pm |
I am just wondering how many of your 10-14yos write in journals/diaries? If so, how often do they do it? Is it something that they took up for a week or so and then dropped?
I remember when I was grade 6/7 I wrote in my journal every night and it helped me with expressing emotions, and I really want Caitie to be able to start working on expressing her emotions, sharing her feelings, and controlling her anger. I think a journal might help, but I don't know whether it is something she would stick with.
What do you think of journals/diaries? Any other ideas for working on emotion expression?
Thanks,
-Nikki

I just taught a class about journaling - I'm a big supporter of kids writing from as early as age 2 (writing is drawing then, but they do have things to say). I used this link here (http://organizedchristmas.com/article41.html) for a handout/ idea. Maybe you could make her a journal jar of her own for Christmas?
My kids journal every night - sometimes with a leader questions - sometimes they just have a lot to say....
Thanks so much Lolly, that site should be interesting.

I have to be honest, Nikki, I'm not sure. She has owned a variety of journals over the years but whether she currently writes in one, I do not know.

My daughter (6th grade) has written in journals on and off for several years. She enjoys writing and its a good way to get her thoughts together and express yourself. Now her twin brother hates journal writing. He would only do it if it was a homework assignment.
DD even loves looking through the journals in the store, picking out a new one every once in a while (and a fancy looking pen to go along with it).

This should be addressed to ALL, but i don't know how to change it!
Hmm...those were all good things to think about. I definately agree with the point that was made about me not controlling whether or not she writes in it, it has to be for herself. I think maybe I will get her a journal/journal jar to go with her christmas presnt and just hope that she uses it.
Thanks,
