Does your tween have their own computer?

Seems like my 6th graders homework now requires her to use the computer almost every night. There is a computer that her and sisters used to share but it died. I want to give them my laptop and get a new one for me but my dh wants to wait until spring. Sharing my computer is driving me nuts! I use it for work, though not really in the evening. Anyway, I was wondering how many tweens had their own computers?

Not here but he would love to. I just think he is too young and immature right now.

We just had an incident last week about it too. But he is over it now.

My daughter's school requires that all work be typed - with the exception of math problems. In addition to typing, she often has to do research online. She shares a computer with her seven year old brother. I don't let the kids use my computer, because I also use it for work.

Mine does, but it's in the dining room right next to ours. She used to have it in her room, but she was turning into a turtle (hiding in her room all the time) and started seeming depressed. So after talking to the dr, we took it out of her room, and she had a 110% turn around. She wants a lap top for Christmas, so we're going to get her one. The computer she has now is pretty old and slooow!!!

DS 12 has his own laptop. He has fine motor difficulty and also uses it in school to takes notes and tests. We have wireless here so he can do his homework wherever he wants on it.

Nope. She would like one but I think I need to control what she's doing and how much time she's on there. She can share with me and while sometimes its a pain for both of us, she doesn't NEED one. Right now she only uses the computer for special projects and that's not that often. If she had her own computer she would only want it for internet and I'm not prepared for that right now.

Up until this past year Jordyn has had her own computer for about 3 years, my brother builds them here and there and she got his old one. Its quite a bit older now so it doesn't work real well and when we moved it never got unpacked. Our original plan was to get her a new one for Christmas, but DH wants me to ship him my laptop overseas, so we are thinking that we will get a desktop for Jordyn and I to share until he gets back and then him and I will get a new laptop and the desktop will go back to being just hers. We'll see, I have to go out again and compare prices and see if the after Thanksgiving sales might help me out.

No....per se. DH and I both have laptops, so our family computer is now the kids. It is in the office and we monitor what they can access.
