Does your tween have their own computer?
| Fri, 11-17-2006 - 8:39am |
Seems like my 6th graders homework now requires her to use the computer almost every night. There is a computer that her and sisters used to share but it died. I want to give them my laptop and get a new one for me but my dh wants to wait until spring. Sharing my computer is driving me nuts! I use it for work, though not really in the evening. Anyway, I was wondering how many tweens had their own computers?

Yes and no - we have two desktops - but everyone uses both - they are networked so they can use either for homework/ or play.
DS will need one this next year with the shift in his classes, so we'll probably get him a laptop at some point.
Yes, my 6th grade twins each have their own computers. Prior to getting them, they were using my old (dying) desktop for internet homework, and my notebook for writing documents (it did not have internet access). It just got silly and time consuming for them to be waiting around to use one of the computers in order to do their homework (and not an efficient way for them to go about doing their homework), and I was 3rd in line and only got to use the computer if they weren't using it for a homework assignment. And they do get a lot of homework requiring a computer and the internet.
LOL, and I got a new desktop, too. Then got all the computers hooked up to the internet.

Oh yes, between Runescape and homework for two kids, I only get to use mine during the daytime hours! They have a piece of junk one in the loft for games but it doesn't have internet. We've just put an EMachine on layaway for them for Christmas. We're getting a wireless router so we can both have internet access. I've been pretty satisfied with the McAfee Security system so I am more at ease about them having internet upstairs in the loft when I'm not looking over their shoulders.
Hubby travels alot and we discussed getting him a non-govt. laptop to take on the road with him, letting them use it when he was at home. Mackenzie was all aflutter, saying she could take it into her room to chat in private. Between the hysterical laughter and "not on your life" looks between DH and I, we decided a nice desktop computer would be better suited for them! :)
