**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**

DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know

It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members.

Since we are talking about colleges and such, here is my situation:

Nichole is a Junior this year and she is taking ACT prep courses through the school, she will take her ACT's (I still have to figure out when that is and pay for it), get her driver's license, apply and hopefully get a job, put her art portfolio together and have someone look at it.

Look at it this way Tracy at least he figured this out now. Only a few days into classes. instead of half way into them.

I know if I was not allowed to do some of my school work at work I would not be able to go back to school. Its demanding. and to have kids and a household to deal with is rough enough for me.

We've discussed that also. Jordyn is completely against going to a community college also. As was I when I was her age, all the way up until I got pregnant after graduation and had to give up my spot at a 4 year college and switch to cc just to get my degree. So I know how she's thinking...

The one advantage we have at the moment is she has given up having to go to U of Michigan for undergrad which would have cost $50k a year for out of state tuition since she can't get residency in time. She is almost 100% sure now of going to Grand Valley where my brother currently goes and owns a house. Its actually less than $10k a year for out of state tuition, and she can live with him for the first year or two. If she doesn't want an on campus job, he can already get her a job where he works. And she has decided she can transfer to U of M for graduate work. As of right now she has decided on Art History and Conservation and possibly minor in teaching art or latin.

I can see the music ed issue, we talked a lot about that when Jordyn was really wanting to major in Art Ed with a minor in Latin Ed. Those are the ones that tend to get cut first...

I agree Cheryl. Honestly, once he signed this one account I had doubts about his ability to juggle it. But he has been adament many times about how important it is to him to finish his degree, and especially not look like a hypocrit to the kids about college. But really, him wanting to start his own business and work for himself is just as important to him, so knowing either one would have made him equally happy at this point, I am completely fine and supportive with his decision, as long as he is.

Now the financial end.... sigh...

I hope Becca doesn't come home- sign into facebook and see the whole DELETE comment on her facebook page, and either have hurt feelings or hate this child even more than she already does :(

And I hope I don't get an email from mom saying "Hey- are the girls not talking to each other and do you know why"?

That's awesome Kelly! I know Jordyn had to be recommended for her AP World History class since she's taking it as a sophomore.

She also looked at art colleges, i think the one drawback for her was she didn't want to take ALL art classes for 4 years. She loves it, but she also loves taking the other classes and she realy wanted to take some latin classes in college.

And BTW, ACT tests are April 9th and June 11th this spring. We just got an email about them today, Texas is giving Juniors vouchers to take the ACT or SAT tests for free. Jordyn's school doesn't offer the ACT at their location, so if she decides to take it for a MI college, she'll either take it in Michigan when she goes next summer, or find another testing location here in town to take it.

That's the only thing i am afraid of, that Jordyn gets through these AP classes but then doesn't do well on the exam. Not that its totally wasted, but still... She's got one of the AP test study books that she works through along with her normal textbook and that seems to even be helping with her tests in class.

I agree Deanna. I'm glad he figured it out so early on before he drove us all mad because of how overwhelmed he was.
