**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**

DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know

It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members.

I can say I am kind of envious. I wish I could go back to school. I went when nathan was a baby for my paralegal certficate. I used up all of my financial aid then. I certainly cannot pay for school, and I don't want to go into debt (anymore than I already am). I remember it being really difficult to work and take care of Nathan, but I wish I had more marketable skills, so I could get a J-O-B.

Ugh, how horrible! I seem to remember my mom going through the same type of things with my youngest brother. I'm sorry it was such a long evening, but its great that DH stuck it out and worked through it!!

Do they do a week long progression for them to learn the words, or just give you the list at the beginning of the week to work on all week? Jordyn's teachers would do something for homework each night with them, one night was strictly writing them, one night was a crossword puzzle, one night was writing them in sentences. So they got different ways of looking at them and knowing what they meant so they would stick in their brain a little easier.

We get a list of words for the week on mondays, friday is test day. They also post online the list of words for each week for the six weeks for parents. In case the kids dont bring home their spelling books. (forgetful but parents can print them) We have ours taped in the kitchen to the wall each week. They have a spelling book with activities to do each day till friday with their words. (graded) but TJ seems to fail with those worksheets. So since TJ did not practice all week he had to write them so much last night. Usually every night he writes them down. his handwriting is horrible so its good practice for that as well. Each night usually takes him about an hour to write about 20 words. Its been getting harder but he did bring the grade up so we slacked off some. Guess that wont happen. and besides if you make DH mad you get lots of things taken away. (no video games) Its sinking in to DH that he needs to spend more time doing other things. so I am pleased it has worked and hopeful about the shorter time next week. But only having to write them twice a day might be easier. So much for telling us you have no homework. LOL

I like having a 10 point scale.Plus honors and ap coures in Gabby;s school are weighted higher to help with the GPA .Gab's school use to have a 7 poing grading scale.
