What you're referring to, "general math"...lol covers all 5 strands of math without specializing on just one or two strands at a time. That's what MOST elementary and middle school students take.
The 5 strands of math are:
Number Sense & Operations; Data Analysis, Probability, & Discrete Math; Patterns, Algebra, & Functions; Geometry & Measurement; and Structure & Logic.
I had to teach all 5 strands when I taught 7th grade math.
When Mike was in school, they offered Math 1 & Math 2, which were general maths and met the requirements (at the time) of 2 maths in high school. When I got there, Algebra I & Geometry were required and then a 3rd math. I think the other math I couldn't think of was Consumer Math, so there was also Business Math, Algebra II, Trig/Advanced Math (which required Algebra II as a pre-req), and Physics (math/science, which req Alg II as well).
My cousin at another school took Algebra II directly after Algebra I, then Geometry in 11th grade.

I'd have to research that, but I don't agree.
DYK -
I totally agree.
BTW, Jordyn has grown an inch in the last month.
Why do they teach Geometry in between Algebra I and II anyways??
