DYK Thread for May

**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**

DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know

It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members

I called and had DH stop and get me milk on the way home from work. I didn't have time to go to the store and was trying to find something for dinner that I had enough ingredients for and didn't involve pasta, since we had pasta 3 or 4 times already this week.

I just put the scalloped potatoes and ham in the oven, so it'll be about an hour til dinner is done.

several neighboring parishes are on 10-month pay cycles and I know teachers there who certainly struggle with that.

Then, there's also when you get paid...a neighboring parish gets paid twice/month, we get paid once/month.

I honestly don't care one way or the other if he was. I think he was thinking, one, he knows that I am really not a stay at home person, and two, more financially because I am still sending Emma to daycare the entire summer.

I have told him before, but he doesn't really retain anything related to finances since I do them all, I already have my entire maternity leave covered and socked away, and have been paying ahead on bills already. So we are covered, and if I am really careful, we might actually end up ahead on things when I go back.

I think I'm doing grilled chicken (they're pre-cooked, frozen...I won't eat it, but Aly & Mike love them) and broiled squash (zucchini & yellow) with Parmesan cheese.

Ya I can't imagine either, you would really have to plan well to do it that way.

I know when I was growing up a lot of teachers would work during the summers, at the local grocery stores and stuff. I don't know that that is really the case much anymore.

DH is asleep on the couch and Emma is watching Nai Ho Kai Lan, I think that's how its spelled. She was really good earlier and actually sat at the table and colored for over 30 minutes!

Jordyn is in doing something in her bedroom. I should probably go check on the laundry and put another load in.

we have so much more paperwork and accountability now that teachers just need the break nowadays.

Also, I have to get in at least 30 hours of continuing learning units this summer, which I can do by attending workshops and such. I have to get 150 hours every 5 years. I only got 24 last summer, but then I got 19 at the NSTA conference. It's really, really hard to get hours during the school year.

I'm going to request going to the LSTA (Louisiana Science Teachers Association) conference in Shreveport this fall, but I don't know if they will pay for the registration and the room, and I can't afford to do that myself. We'll see.

We get paid once a month also. It took me quite a while to adjust to it. Luckily at the time DH was getting paid 2 times a month. Now he gets paid weekly, sometimes I like it, and sometimes its actually harder. I like just sitting down and paying stuff 2 times a month, but now I find that I almost have to sit down and pay stuff weekly. I usually pay the 1st half of the month bills out of my paycheck and then the last two weeks of the month I pay things weekly. Its a pain sometimes.

All the finished loads are folded & put away, but I have a load of clothes in the washer and a load of towels on deck. They will need to be folded & put away, too.
