DYK Thread for JULY
**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**
DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know
It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members
Below are some fun DYK blinkies--feel free to snag any if you like:

I need to get to Academy either Monday or Tuesday and get Jordyn bloomers for under her cheerleading uniforms. She only has 1 pair right now and wants at least 4 so she has one for every day at camp.
Madison is stirring, so I'm sure she'll be up shortly from her nap. Emma is down for a nap at the moment, the first nap she's taken in her new toddler bed and not in DH and I's bed which is nice.
I'm watching Oprah from yesterday on simplifying life and simplistic living.
I just had Aly try on her shirt, and they weren't as bad as I imagined. So I'm not even going to buy her a white one...the one she has will last her through football season (a lot shorter in the middle school). I'll just buy her 3 navy in the next size up.
Aly didn't need glasses yet. If she has problems with copying notes from the screen to her paper (the adjustment) and starts getting headaches, we can get her a pair (he wrote the script) then to use only when it bothers her.
Mine got a little worse...where I can still wear what I have, but since my frames are 2 years old and they're covered on my insurance (my lenses are discounted, but not covered completely since I refuse to wear coke bottle lenses)
Glad Aly does not need glasses yet.Do you wear contacts at all?Dale has horrible eye sight so he wears contacts most of the time.he is not a canaidate for lasik, because he has kyintonitis(sp?)it has stayed stable for several years, but ot can get a lot worse.
We still did not get a back to school list. What a pain.It usually comes with the report card.Gabby usually needs 1=2 inch binders for all of her classes, but I hate to buy them if for some reason she does not need them this year.I think she needs a calulater, but not sure if it is just the scientific one we have or a graphing one.She is taking Alg 1 so the one she has should be fine.I also think she needs a flash drive.I am just going by what people needed last year but I won't buy a thing yet.I am sure it will run into big $$$.Last year I spent close to $100 just on stuff for the classroom.
Gab goes back on the 24th.
I've worn Toric lenses in the past (I have astigmatism, that's getting worse), but they make my eyes itchy & dry & irritated and no amount of drops relieves them.
He was just telling me about a new breakthrough (in the past year & a half) in astigmatism lenses...that's it's a mix of the hard & soft lenses, but I'm sure I would still have the same issues and I'd end up never wearing them.
We cut down our school supply list this year for our grade level. And the calculator they use in 6th grade is the same one they use through 8th grade at every middle school in the parish (so even if she transferred, she would still use this one). I have a graphing calculator, so if she needs that in high school, hopefully she can use this one. I had a student with a graphing calculator when I taught math. It was okay--but I just wasn't very helpful if she needed to know where a certain key was or how to put in a certain code since I wasn't familiar with it.
One "wasted" thing on the supply list that we cut out was that we had the students buying 2 each of the 6 colored plastic folders at $1 a piece. None of us required students to have 2 folders, the second was just a back-up. And if you buy the $1 folders, it'll last the whole year. So that saved the students $6. The other thing that we will change next year is the glue sticks--we have it listed as 2 large sticks, but 4 small sticks would be significantly cheaper ($4 for 2 large or 60c for 4 small).
That trip to the store on the first day of school is a memory I don't mind not having to do anymore...lol. We NEVER got lists ahead of time..ever. We found out what we needed on the first day of school (even through high school) and that's when we went buy stuff. And we didn't get Wal-mart until I was in 3rd or 4th grade. We would have to go to Ben Franklin & Rossie's Five & Dime..which were little hole-in-the-wall stores.
Even college now, you can get your list ahead of time (thanks to Internet).
