DYK Thread for JULY
**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**
DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know
It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members
Below are some fun DYK blinkies--feel free to snag any if you like:

We only have 1 teacher at the school that requires a binder--8th grade math.
We don't have lockers, so the students have to carry everything with them all day long. They bring home a set of textbooks at the beginning of the year and each teacher has a classroom set.
Ideally, they should only have to carry 6 folders (which are filled quite quickly), 1 or 2 composition books (just 1 in 7th grade), 1 workbook (math), planner that's given to them at beginning of year (part of instructional fee), and then their stuff like calculator, scissors, pencils, colored pencils, glue.
However, Aly's backpack is always heavy. She also has to bring her clarinet every day and she packs a lunch more often than not (since she's on my hall this year, she can leave her lunch & clarinet with me until she needs it....the bigger instruments I've had kids leave those in my room if they have my class before band).
Aly is reusing her calculator & scissors from last year, so this is what I've purchased:
4 folders at $1 each-$4 (need another one, but I had an extra purple at home)
1 folder at 15c (that she won't use if I find the plastic yellow folder)
4 small glue sticks 60c
5 packs loose leaf paper @ 75c-$3.75
3 packs of Aly's choice of pencils @ 2.25 = 6.75
1 pack assorted highlighters @ $1.50
6 manila folders (no extra charge--I have loads at home)
2 packs of baby wipes about $4
1 roll paper towels about $1
3 boxes of Kleenex about $1 each--$3
1 pack colored pencils-$1
2 packs lined index cards (no extra charge--have loads at home)
3 composition notebooks at 70c each--$2.10
That's about $30 plus the $20 instructional fee. Scissors & calculator would add to that charge (plus the things I didn't have to buy)--so about $65-70.
Hey everyone!!
I haven't been on here in ages, and there's no way I can catch up
I am sorry if I missed any big news with anyone
I do keep up with many of you on Facebook, but I haven't gotten here for a while
I'm just popping in tonight to say Goodbye and to have a great week
We're leaving on vacation tomorrow
We're going to the mountains in Virginia, to a cabin of close friends of ours, who let us stay there each year when they're not there
There is no computer access, or TV, it is just secluded and beautiful with nothing but nature and a lake for miles, and the stars at night are so gorgeous
And for once, it's just our immediate family
I'm really looking forward to the peace before the kids and I start school, plus Michael has had an incredibly stressful month at work
He gets a batch of new residents to teach every July, and it's always crazy, but this year seems especially bad, and I think he is just totally worn out and exhausted, so he reeeeeally needs this break!
We'll be home next Friday night (A week from tonight)
Have a great week and I miss you guys!! :)
